Kuma Computers was co-founded by Tim Moore and John Day in January 1983, following the closure of Moore's previous company, NewBear. Tim Moore, born in 1946, had a history in microcomputing, having established Bear Microcomputer Systems in the 1970s and released the Bear 77-68 microcomputer in 1977. Kuma Computers, initially located in Maidenhead, later relocated to Pangbourne, Berkshire.

They seem to have published their first game for the Sharp MZ-80 in 1982, and began publishing for the MSX in 1984. Their last MSX titles are dated 1986, but there are Kuma Amiga and Atari-ST applications dated 1990.
